Donating your old mobile phone to feed a hungry child in the UK
New research from The Kids Company and Netmums found out the truth about Britain's hungry children. The results are scandalous as well as heartbreaking.
- One million UK children living with ‘food insecurity’ – not knowing where their next meal is coming from
- Half of UK teachers report having to feed hungry children themselves
- 233 per cent increase in children turning to charity to be fed in the last 12 months
I was shocked when I read about this, we are not talking about a war torn country here, we are talking about our own country, here in the UK. Let’s all get together and help to ensure that no child goes hungry in the UK. When I was asked to write a piece about this on my blog, I was happy to help and try and spread the word.
How to help
The good news is that everyone can help and get involved, most of us have an old unused mobile phone lying around the house, and all you have to do to get involved is donate your old phone (even it’s no longer working). Orange and T Mobile are supporting this project and they will put the old phones through their recycling project.
Take your old phone along to either an Orange or T Mobile shop and they will accept it and then take it to be recycled.
Or if you prefer, you can send the phone by free post, for your label click here: http://www.netmums.com/files/NETMUMS_RECYCLING_PREPAID_FIRST_CLASS_LABEL.pdf
Or you can donate by text: To make an immediate donation of £5 text KIDS MEAL to 70700. A £5 SMS will be billed to your mobile account. (For more information contact 0845 644 6838)
